6th Transatlantic Workshop on the Economics of Crime

The 6th Transatlantic Workshop on the Economics of Crime will take place at the Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, on October 3-4, 2014. The deadline for paper submission is May 1, 2014.

This workshop continues the sequence of Economics of Crime workshops in Paris (2009), Bonn (2010), Torino (2011), Rotterdam (2012), and Frankfurt (2013). It will be held at Bocconi University on October 3–4, 2014. We aim at bringing together researchers from both sides of the Atlantic to present and discuss their work, allowing for an in-depth interaction between those working on the empirical and theoretical analysis of crime and illegal behavior.

The workshop will consist of two keynote lectures – given by Ernesto Dal Bò (University of California at Berkeley) and Stephen Machin (University College of London) – and 10 to 12 contributed papers.

A suggested (but not exhaustive) list of topics covers:

  • Corruption and white collar crimes
  • Evaluation of anti-crime strategies
  • Economic crises and crime
  • Criminal organizations and drug-trafficking
  • Economics of civil conflict
  • Money laundering

The workshop is organized by the BAFFI Center on International Markets, Money and Regulation at Bocconi University (www.baffi.unibocconi.it) in cooperation with UniCredit & Universities Foundation (www.unicreditanduniversities.eu)  . The Unicredit & Universities Foundation  will also award the first “Economics of Crime” prize to the two best papers presented by young researchers among those accepted for the workshop. To be eligible for the prize, all co-authors must be born after 1978. Each of the two papers will receive €2,500 gross.

We invite researchers to submit a paper (in PDF-format) by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. The submission deadline is May 1, 2014. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by June 1. We will provide accommodation and reimburse economy travel costs for paper presenters.
