PhD student position in International Agricultural Economics/ Rural Development

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development has an opening for a PhD student (wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in) to carry out research related to emerging high-value markets in developing countries.
Possible research areas may include, but are not limited to: contracts in agricultural value chains, learning and social networks, producer groups, grades and standards, implications of global agricultural markets on small-scale farmers and traders in developing countries, implications on food security and resource management. Interest in experimental research methods would be appreciated.
The PhD candidate will participate in a structured PhD program (i.e. IPAG) and assist in teaching and research in fields related to her or his PhD research. The position is 50% of a full time position and remunerated according to E13 TV-L (German public sector pay scale) for the duration of three years. Starting date is as soon as possible or upon agreement.
The candidate should have
- An excellent degree in agricultural economics, economics, or a related discipline
- Strong quantitative research skills
- A proven interest in topics related to development economics and rural development
- Very good command of the English and German language, other languages are a plus
- Interest, aptitude and preferably experience in carrying out field work in a developing country
- Strong organizational and communication skills
