Call for papers

This conference will discuss the issues associated with Social Capital in Practice. 

As possible examples, the following topics may be discussed at the conference: 

  • Social capital and health (both public and individual),

  • Social capital and depression, 

  • Social capital and ageing, 

  • Adolescent suicide, suicidal pact and social capital, 

  • Youth health, youth growth and development, and social capital,  

  • Ethnic diversity, migrations, and minority integration,

  • Social mobility and social capital, class structure and revenue inequality issues,

  • Social capital and public policies, 

  • Social capital, community development, urban policies, urban planning and housing, 

  • Crime, delinquency, impropriety, and social capital,

  • Lifelong learning and education issues related to social capital,

  • Families and the private life,  

  • Social capital and religion,

  • Social capital and business, 

  • Social capital, inclusive growth, and the economy, 

  • Democratization, political and judicial participation, and social capital, 

  • Measurement issues about social capital, 

  • Issues revolving around the TISR model,

  • Other topics proposed by participants.   

This type of conference brings together scientists, policymakers, social workers and the widest possible public. The emphasis will be put on social capital in practice in terms of actual or potential applications of social capital research. The objective is to make progress on the understanding of these issues by shedding light on some current societal and economic developments, and to draft innovative, practical responses.

The Social Link Cycle is a line of conferences dedicated to the bond between people within society, and its contemporary crisis.

Deadlines

Dates: The conference will take place from Friday, 7 May 2010, 5 p.m. (welcome cocktail, local time) to Monday, 10 May 2010, noon (local time).

Duration: Part or intermittent attendance is not allowed, except on Friday evening and Monday morning.   

Opening of submissions: Submissions will be opened on 6 April 2009, 6 p.m. CET.

Closure of submissions: Submissions will be closed on 15 February 2010, 6 p.m. CET. 

Opening of registrations: Registrations will be opened on 1 June 2009, 6 p.m. CET.

Closure of registrations: Registrations will be closed on 28 February 2010, 6 p.m. CET.

Forms of participation

Keynote speakers can be chosen among participants who have submitted a regular completed research paper if the conference program committee judges this abstract of particular interest.  

Paper sessions will consist of three to four presentations in a 120 minutes session. The time for presentation will be divided equally between the presenters.

Panel sessions will provide an opportunity for three or more persons to present on a given subject in a 90 minutes session. Submissions can be made specifically for this type of sessions.

Workshops allow participants to debate of a particular issue in a 120 minutes roundtable session and to contribute to elaborate later a policy recommendation report

Participation as speaker is competitive. The final program will be tailored to the best proposals selected according to TSCF’s standards of quality.

Participation as discussant is also encouraged both from academicians, policymakers, social workers, or any person whose activity is related to the subject.

Any person interested in the subject can participate as an attendee.
