Research Fellow – Trade Policy International Economic Development Group (IEDG) Contract: Full-time Salary: £44,074 - £54,206 per annum (market supplement may be applicable for exceptional candidates) Ref: IEDG/03/08

The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) has an exciting new opportunity for a senior economist to join our International Economic Development Group and lead its Trade Programme.

As a Research Fellow working on trade policy, your role will be to design and deliver programmes and provide intellectual leadership on contemporary issues of trade policy affecting developing countries.

Working with colleagues, you will take the lead, on the design of a programme of research-based policy advice and, raise funds for the work of the Programme. In addition to fundraising, leading projects and mentoring colleagues, you will develop the Programme’s network of contacts and public affairs programmes to influence key organisations such as the EU, ACP governments and DFID through high-quality, innovative economic research. Your objective will be to ensure that your findings inspire and inform policy to reduce poverty and suffering.

You will be part of a leading team in ODI’s International Economic Development Group and will have access to leading debate, economic data and information, as well as the support of an excellent communications group. You will have the opportunity to develop your own streams of work in trade and influence key decision makers.

You have: excellent academic credentials, with research experience obtained either through a doctorate or other means; proven ability to lead programmes of research, advice and opinion-forming in trade and related areas; applied practical research and writing in the area of trade and trade policy; extensive experience over a full project cycle, success in obtaining funding for your own work and the work of others.

You also have: vision and a creative approach to developing new streams of work; proven ability to apply economic theories to investigations; experience in policy-oriented research, demonstrated by publications and reports; the ability to translate research ideas into fundable projects; at least five years of proven experience as a consultant or researcher in development; fluency in English, and preferably a good command of at least one other language; strong analytical abilities, a capacity to write clearly, and excellent organisational and oral communication skills.
