EURICSE Post-Doctoral Fellowship Programme
Call for Applications

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Application deadline: March 5, 2010.

Applications should be sent by e-mail to postdoc@euricse.eu.

The European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (Euricse) offers a Fellowship programme to PhD graduates interested in conducting advanced studies on issues relevant to its mission. Every year, Euricse will award one or more fellowships to researchers who will spend 12 months working in residence at Euricse on a research project of their choice.

About Euricse

Euricse is a foundation promoting understanding and development of cooperative and social enterprises. Euricse combines multidisciplinary research, training, and consulting services not only to develop new knowledge, but also to create and promote ownership, governance, and management models that will enable such organizations to operate effectively. While Euricse is located in the Italian Province of Trento and has strong links with local organizations, its activities address issues of global interest, and its approach favours openness and collaboration with researchers and institutions from all over the world.
Recognizing that cooperative and social enterprises are gaining increasing relevance in both developed and developing countries as a pathway out of social exclusion, Euricse supports research that can lead to a better understanding of the rationale, roles, and potential of these organizations in contemporary societies. In particular, Euricse supports research based on experimental, behavioural, institutional and evolutionary economics, as well as studies that aim to emphasize the social and economic impact of social and cooperative enterprises at the national and local level, including the enhancement of social capital and the contribution to development and to democratization.

Post-doctoral Fellowship Programme

The Post-Doctoral Fellowship programme is designed to help PhD graduates develop and implement research projects related to the rationale and potential of cooperative and social enterprises. In doing so, the Fellowship programme enables bright scholars from all over the world to work in a stimulating scientific environment, contributing to widening their network of personal relations.
Fellowship recipients will spend 12 months (September through August) working at Euricse on a research project of their choice, and will have full access to Euricse’s and the University of Trento’s facilities (including an extensive and specialized library), staff, and resources. Furthermore, recipients are offered the opportunity to:
- work with recognized experts in the field
- attend Euricse’s and the University’s seminars, workshops, and conferences
- promote cross-fertilization between research groups working in similar fields.
In addition, Euricse will offer office space, provide housing, food vouchers, travel reimbursement, logistic assistance, and a monthly stipend of up to €1.300. Interested candidates are also encouraged to seek other sources of funding, which (if necessary) will be integrated by Euricse in order to make them comparable to the benefit package described above. Non-stipendiary appointments are offered as well.

In addition to working closely with Euricse’s staff, over the course of the year, successful applicants are expected to publish at least one working paper with Euricse and hold at least one seminar or workshop on their research topic.

Eligibility

The Fellowship is available to PhD holders within three years of their graduation. Consistent with Euricse’s multidisciplinary approach, research projects are welcome from a variety of fields, including (but not limited to) economics, sociology, history, political science and law. All candidates are expected to be fluent in English.
In order to be considered, applicants should submit a short description of the research they would like to conduct during the year they will spend at Euricse. This should be an original research proposal consistent with Euricse’s overall goals and agenda (further outlined on Euricse’s web site, at www.euricse.eu).

Application and Selection Procedures

Interested applicants should submit the following documents, all in English:

• A statement of interest

• A photocopy of the applicant’s identity card or passport A Curriculum Vitae including a list of publications

• A concise research proposal (max 5 pages).

The candidate should clearly state the general and specific objectives pursued by the research and distinguish what is original about the proposed study vis-à-vis existing research and publications in the same field. The proposal should include a description of the project’s methodology, stages, expected results and outputs, and a short bibliography. The candidate is also expected to specify whether he or she is seeking full or partial funding from Euricse, and indicate the other research grants that are supporting or have supported her/his work on this project.

• At least one letter of recommendation from experts in the candidate’s field of research

• A sample of published or unpublished work

Applications should be sent by e-mail to postdoc@euricse.eu
The selection of the winner will be made by Euricse’s Advisory Board (see www.euricse.eu/node/14).

Timeline

Applications must be submitted by March 5, 2010, and the winner will be notified by April 16, 2010. The Fellow will be expected to begin work on September 1, 2010, and end on August 31, 2011.
