Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM) is offering recent PhD’s and outstanding PhD candidates (at the dissertation stage) the opportunity to visit the Centro Vernon Smith de Economía Experimental and the Facultad de Ciencias Economicas (FCE) for a semester or a full year.
The successful candidate would be expected to conduct experimental research while visiting, present a seminar(s) on their research, teach and lead a Socratic seminar with undergraduates, and interact with faculty members and students during their visit. Spanish language skills are desired but not required.
UFM will cover the cost of a return economy airfare to Guatemala, and provide a competitive stipend to cover living expenses. Additional resources (larger stipend plus supplementary research funds) are available for candidates capable of high quality instruction (in either English or Spanish) for undergraduate courses in economics or quantitative methods (math, statistics, econometrics, etc.).
Review of applications will begin on October 31, 2009 and continue until fellow positions are filled. We will start interviewing in January 2010.
The FCE at UFM has a brand new, state-of-the-art Experimental Economics Laboratory with capacity for 32 subjects and facilities for double-blind payment of subjects. The Lab offers support for running experiments and will offer programming support to facilitate developing software for experiments.
UFM is a private university committed to excellence. A sprawling campus nestled in an arboretum in the heart of Guatemala City makes UFM ideally suited for research and studying. (For more information on UFM of FCE please visit https://www.ufm.edu/cms/es/at-a-glance or http://fce.ufm.edu/).
Applications (and questions) should be sent via email to: experimentos [at] ufm [dot] edu
Application should include: (i) a CV; (ii) a letter of interest with a proposed timeline and brief description of the research agenda and visit's objectives; (iii) an outline of the research being undertaken as part of the PhD; (iv) (at least) one letter of recommendation; (v) contact details of the student's principal PhD supervisor. Applicants interested in teaching should specify their teaching interests in the application, capabilities, experience, and should include teaching evaluations.
