of World Universities and Departments
This section collects links to web sites reporting rankings
of world universities and departments. Selected rankings are
based on criteria like research publications and citations,
the institution's reputation, the awards received by the academic
staff and former students - e.g. Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals
- the degree of internationalization, and the teachers/students
ratio.

• Times Higher World University
Rankings
The Times Higher World University Ranking, is the first to
use peer review to establish a global pecking order. In addition
to a poll of 1,300 academics in 88 countries, the ranking
takes account of staffing levels and research citations. The
ranking is edited by the Times Higher Education Supplement.
• Academic Ranking
of World Universities
The 2004 edition of the world university rankings edited by
the Institute of Higher Education of the Shanghai Jiao Tong
University. The ranking takes account of the quality of education,
the quality of faculty, the research output and the size of
the institutions.
