  • find ways of linking research to practical implementation
  • provide opportunities to share knowledge and experience of social capital development, through confernces and networking events
  • provide a platform to share information via our website
  • and through our FREE e-bulletin - Sign up for 'Reciprocate to Accumulate' here..

Assist Social Capital began life as a small project in 2002 and has grown steadily since then. In 2003, we received a grant from Awards for All to carry out a feasibility study into the value of setting up an organisation in Scotland to promote social capital. The response was overwhelmingly positive.

Also in 2003, Colin Campbell (Founder and Executive Director) obtained an award from Scotland UnLtd (now called Firstport) to set up a social enterprise that will carry out fee earning social capital initiatives and invest surpluses in the organisations aims. In August 2004, the organisations became a charitable company (No. SC035728) limited by guarantee.

In 2004/2005, Assist Social Capital carried out its first Action Research project. Using Scotland UnLtd as a case study, a new evaluation and management tool was developed. Interest is growing in the methodology and we hope to attract investment to trial the methodology

In 2006, we ran our first International Conference in Glasgow and followed that with two more successful conferences in 2007 ('Social Capital & Financial Inclusion') and again in 2009 ('Social Capital & Community Resilience').Download 2009 Conference Report Here...

Following on from the 2009 conference, we hosted the inaugural 'Social Capital World Forum' for practitioners working to promote social capital at a national and regional level.
