Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEAA)

The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEAA) is one of the most dynamic faculties within the ”Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in terms  of educational offer, number of students, academic expertise and modern learning facilities. Although the Faculty has been part of the ”Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University since 1962, the tradition of higher economic education started in Iasi in 1843, when Ion Ghica taught the first course of Political Economy at the Mihaileana Academy.

The Iasi school of economics gained its recognition beginning with the year 1962 when the Faculty of Economics was founded within the University. Until 1990, the Faculty offered several specialists, such as: Industry, Construction and Transport Economics; Finance and Accounting; Agricultural Economics; Accounting and Agricultural Economics. After 1990, the educational curricula and faculty structure were entirely reshaped and focused on:

  • developing a new curricula for Economics and Management
  • restructuring the academic and research activity by underlining both the relevance of students’ creative/critical thinking and their acquisition of professional competences, in a learning environment that is conductive to the free choice of research topics and their development
  • improving and diversifying the educational offer in order to meet the challenges of economic, institutional and political reforms, and to meet the standards of a democratic society and an evolved market economy
  • matching research and teaching aims with those of similar Western schools by developing international cooperation.

 In 1999 the Faculty of Economics was renamed the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The new name included the two major fields of academic education: Economics – Economics and Business Administration.

Lately, the Faculty has undergone important changes that have strengthened its reputation within higher economic education in Romania. Further organizational development, quality of teaching and research development and the international recognition are some of the strategic steps to be taken in the near future.

In the formula and the spirit of the Bolognia reform, the Doctoral School of Economics was founded on 1 September 2005, bringing together at the begining, 60 students and 25 professors supervisors. Opened to inter-and multidisciplinary research, PhD School focuses on two branches of research areas with strong interference economics and business administration.

Doctoral School of Economics has the mission to achieve excellence in basic research and economic application.
